Expectation of bondholders in the U.S. on the swap

They predict that the government will have to attend to them to the end

WASHINGTON (from our correspondent).- Not only is it in the courtroom of Judge Thomas Griesa. Local holders of unpaid bonds from Argentina are waiting with the expectation of the imminent resolution of the international tribunal ICSID, which could declare itself competent in the complaint put forth by Italian investors. "That is a very interesting avenue. If, as we expect, the ICSID declares itself within jurisdiction on the issue, it will be a very heavy blow for the swap offer," said Mark Bostford here, who calls himself an "individual holder" of Argentine bonds in default.

The recourse of Italian investors is atypical, as the ICSID focuses on arbitrating complaints from businesses that, upon investing in foreign countries, consider their rights put in jeopardy, and not private investors. In this occasion, it was asked to accept the complaints of many small Italian investors.

It's possible that the resolution of the tribunal will coincide with the presence of President Cristina Kirchner in this city, where she is expected beginning on April 9th.

For others, the advances of the debt swap set off expectations here that were not thought of. "I doubt that the government can get the adhesion they talk about, and when this occurs, they will have no remedies left other than to negotiate with all the bondholders that fell outside," Botsford said.

"The truth is that the Kirchner government never fails to surprise. First it attacks the vulture funds, then it does a swap on its own terms, with a maneuver in which those who gain the most are them and the banks involved," he said.
